The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet by Becky Chambers (2014)
This is feel-good science fiction. It has a ramshackle spaceship, a mismatched crew and their adventures. Yes, bad stuff happens, but mostly good stuff happens. You really engage with the characters and they are fully fleshed out. This book also has great world building, with a seemingly endless variety of alien species, including their history and other details.
Also, as with a lot of books these days, part of a 4-part series. They’re all good.
