About

Monica is a dancer, percussionist, independent researcher, teacher, and writer dedicated to movement arts that are of, by, and for the people. Her areas of interest include Mediterranean dances and musical traditions, with a primary focus on Egyptian raqs baladi (رقص بلدي) and Southern Italian tarantelle, including pizzica pizzica and other danze popolari. Mediterranean Movement ~ Monica teaches a monthly in-person class in San Francisco the second Saturday of every month. She is available for private lessons, coaching, workshops, choreography, performances, and lectures. Along with her dance work, she is a percussionist, and plays and performs Arabic music as a performing member of Aswat Ensemble and Italian music with Duo Pizzicato.
